About

Biography

Initially trained as a pianist in Quebec, David Turcotte soon turned to opera singing, where the importance of teamwork with singers, instrumentalists and theater artists is essential. In love with and curious about the musical kaleidoscope, he blossoms from baroque music to contemporary creations, secular and sacred, with a predilection for French music.

On stage, David portrayed Giulio Cesare in Giulio Cesare in Egitto (Handel), Huascar in Les Indes galantes (Rameau), various bass roles in The Fairy Queen (Purcell), Guglielmo in Così fan tutte (Mozart), Masetto in Don Giovanni (Mozart), Frank in La chauve-souris (J. Strauss), Bobinet in La vie parisienne (Offenbach), the roles of the Cat and the Tree in L'enfant et les sortilèges (Ravel), Presto in Les mamelles de Tirésias (Poulenc), Demetrius in A Midsummer Night's Dream (Britten), and Toby, as a mute actor, in The Medium (Menotti).

Some roles on bigger stages; at the Opéra de Québec in Louis Riel (Harry Somers) as Elzéar Goulet and Johann in Werther (Massenet) at the Opéra du Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean. He also took part in the tour of the operetta La belle Hélène (Offenbach) for Jeunesses musicales du Canada in 2018-2019, which was a huge success, both on the road and at the Festival d'opéra de Québec. He will perform Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte (Mozart) for Labopéra Seine-et-Marne in the spring 2025.

He took part in several advanced training courses in Canada, including the Toronto Summer Opera Workshop, the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute and Opera Nuova, And in France, at Royaumont, as part of the “German Baroque Polyphony: Heinrich Schütz” course. He graduated from the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles in 2022, and continues to perfect his skills with renowned singer Thomas Dolié.
